MTC adult recital! – Music therapy connections

Music Therapy Connections offers many unique opportunities to their students: the chance to learn more than one instrument during their lesson, 2 days of studio recital each year and mini-recitals throughout the year. One of my favorite events, the adult recital, took place last week!

The MTC welcomes people of all ages through our doors for music therapy lessons and services. Yes, this includes adults! I applaud all of our adult students who choose to learn a new instrument or refine their pre-existing skills. It’s really not easy!

We have a good amount of adult students at MTC, so we have a recital specially for them. Here are some of my highlights from the event.

Watching the students play

This one is a bit obvious, but I can’t help but have a huge smile on my face as I watch all the students play. These students step out of their comfort zone to show their work to their fellow adults. The amount of work they put into these performances is incredible!

I do

I became comfortable enough to accompany my students, but during this recital, I also played alone. Although I am one of the instructors here, I also take my own guitar and piano lessons. During this recital, I performed a guitar solo, which I had never done before! It was extremely vulnerable to perform something that I am not very confident of in front of my own students, but I am glad I did it.

Socialization

This recital also serves as a social gathering for our adult students. It’s a time filled with laughter and smiles as we speak with each other. It was so great to hear the praise they gave each other for their performance. I will never go back to the kindness and support of our group of adults.

The adult recitals are really among my favorite events of the year. My adult students are among the hardest working and most dedicated people I know. I can’t wait for the next one!
